Knowing the rules can help ensure your celebration doesn't end with a visit from the local fire department or a stern talking-to from your neighbor. Here’s a detailed guide on the dos and don'ts of fireworks in various cities around the Kansas City metro area. Follow these tips to avoid landing yourself in the clinker or making a significant contribution to your city’s coffers via fines! MISSOURIfirework rules by KC metro area city, county: BELTON: No fireworks may be set off until 10 a.m. June 28. The hours they are permitted to be discharged are from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. through the duration of the sales and use period ending at midnight on the 4th of July. No fireworks may be discharged on public property or from any moving vehicle. BLUE SPRINGS: Fireworks are permitted to be discharged July 1 – 3 from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and on July 4 from 10 a.m. to midnight. Bottle rockets and aerial luminaires are prohibited by the city. CLAY COUNTY: All municipalities have their own ordinances; refer to cities for more information. GLADSTONE: Not allowed within the city or county limits. GRAIN VALLEY: Fireworks should only be discharged between the hours of 9 a.m. and 11 p.m. from July 2 – 4. GRANDVIEW: Not permitted within city limits. INDEPENDENCE: Only permitted on July 3 and July 5 between 10 a.m. and 11 p.m. On July 4, they are permitted between 10 a.m. and midnight. JACKSON COUNTY: It is prohibited to possess or shoot fireworks. KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI: Not permitted within city limits. LEE’S SUMMIT: Fireworks can only be discharged on July 2 and July 3 from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and July 4 from 10 a.m. to midnight. You must possess a Fireworks Use Permit before discharging any fireworks within the city limits. LIBERTY: Non-aerial fireworks are permitted between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. on July 3 and July 4. Aerial fireworks are permitted only on three acres of land or more between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. July 3 and July 4. NORTH KANSAS CITY: Not permitted within the city limits. PARKVILLE: Fireworks are permitted from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. July 1 – 5 and until midnight on July 4. You can purchase aerial fireworks, but they cannot be discharged within city limits PECULIAR: Allowed July 1 – 3 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Allowed July 4 from 10 a.m. to midnight. Fireworks are prohibited on public streets, sidewalks, public parks or public grounds within city limits. PLATTE CITY: Allowed June 20 – July 3 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Allowed July 4 between 10 a.m. to midnight. RAYMORE: Fireworks may be discharged between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. July 1 and 2; noon to 10 p.m. July 3; 10 a.m. to midnight July 4. Fireworks are not permitted on any public street, sidewalk or trail and are not allowed on public grounds without approval from the city council. Bottle rockets, Roman candles and aerial luminaries are not allowed in city limits. RAYTOWN: Fireworks can be discharged between 10 a.m. and 11 p.m. on July 4 and between noon and 10 p.m. July 5. Stick rockets, missiles and sky lanterns are prohibited. RIVERSIDE: Allowed from June 26 – July 2 and July 5 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Allowed July 3 – 4 from 10 a.m. to midnight. No bottle rockets are allowed and fireworks can't be discharged within 600 feet of any church, hospital, medical facility, public school, library or day care facility or within 300 feet of where fireworks are stored. KANSAS Firework rules by KC metro area city, county BASEHOR: Fireworks are permitted between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. from July 1 to July 3, and July 4 from 9 a.m. through 11:59 p.m. Fireworks should not be discharged within 300 feet of any hospital, infirmary or retirement home. BONNER SPRINGS: Fireworks are legal July 3 and July 4 between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m. DE SOTO: Fireworks are permitted to be discharged from July 2 to July 3 between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. and July 4 between 10 a.m. and midnight. EDWARDSVILLE: Fireworks may be purchased between June 28 and July 4. The discharging of fireworks is only permitted from July 1 through July 4 between 9 a.m. and midnight. GARDNER: Fireworks may be used only from July 2 through July 4 between 10 a.m. and 11 p.m. Bottle rockets or any firework containing a stabilization stick are not permitted. Fireworks are not to be thrown in the path of any animal, person or moving vehicle. Read all prohibited locations here. JOHNSON COUNTY: It is illegal to set off fireworks anywhere in unincorporated areas of Johnson County without a permit. KANSAS CITY, KANSAS: Allowed July 2 – 4 from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Not allowed: bottle rockets and skyrockets. It is illegal to shoot fireworks on any public road, alley or sidewalk, within 150 feet of a fireworks stand or within 100 feet of a gas station. LANSING: Fireworks can be discharged within Lansing city limits from July 1 – 4 between noon and 10 p.m., except on July 4 when fireworks can be discharged from noon until 11 p.m. Bottle rockets are prohibited. LAWRENCE: Not permitted within city limits without a permit. LEAVENWORTH: Not allowed within city limits. FORT LEAVENWORTH: Personal fireworks are not permitted on fort. LEAWOOD: Not allowed within city limits. LENEXA: Sparklers, smoke devices and poppers are all allowed. All other fireworks are prohibited. MERRIAM: Not allowed within city limits. MISSION: Not allowed within city limits. MISSION HILLS: Not allowed within city limits. OLATHE: Not allowed within city limits. OVERLAND PARK: Not allowed within city limits. PRAIRIE VILLAGE: Not allowed within city limits. ROELAND PARK: Allowed on July 4 between 8 a.m. and 11 p.m. Basic firecrackers, sparklers, snakes, and snaps are allowed. SHAWNEE: Fireworks may be set off between the hours of 10 a.m. and 11 p.m. on July 3 and July 4. Bottle rockets, sky lanterns, and M80’s are not permitted. Fireworks may not be set off within 150 feet of a firework stand or gas pump. SPRING HILL: Fireworks can be lit from Friday, June 28 through Friday, July 5 from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. To light fireworks, you must be at least 18 years of age or be under adult supervision. Fireworks should not be lit: > In any gathering of people> In public parks, including golf courses, and public parking lots of the city> Within any building> In, under, or from a car or vehicle whether moving or standing still> The use of fireworks is prohibited in the event of a burn ban or declaration of an emergency. Here's how fireworks can impact pets and veterans, along with ways to ensure everyone enjoys a safe and peaceful 4th of July. Fireworks and Our Furry Friends Neighborhoods across the country come alive with fireworks during special occasions. However, these dazzling displays can be a source of anxiety and fear for our pets. Loud noises and bright lights can easily scare them, causing stress and potentially leading to them running away or getting injured.   Preventive Measures for Pets: Keep Pets Indoors: Ensure your pets are safely inside during fireworks shows. Create a quiet, secure spot in your home where they can feel safe and comfortable.
 Minimize Noise and Light: Close windows and curtains to reduce the noise and flashes of light. Playing calming music or white noise can also help.
 Calming Aids: Consider using anxiety wraps, pet-friendly pheromone diffusers, or even consulting your vet about medication to help relax your pets during these loud events. Supporting Veterans with PTSD Fireworks don't just distress our pets; they can also trigger anxiety and flashbacks in veterans suffering from PTSD. The loud noises and sudden flashes of light can exacerbate their symptoms, making the 4th of July a challenging time. How to Help Veterans:
